A Brief History of Knit2Gether

The Garden held its first online knitting group on Monday, January 25th 2021 (we also gladly welcomed crocheters and those who just wanted to come along for the ride as well!).

We advertised Knit2Gether on Facebook and WCF channels and were overwhelmed by the number of people who expressed their interest and support for  this initiative. We received a total of 38 registrations, exceeding our expectations.

On that Monday evening, 27 of us met together on Zoom for a casual get together, discussing the Biblical principle of compassion in comparison to the fruits of the spirit, all the while knitting, looming and crocheting scarves and hats for impoverished men, women and children in our respective communities. It was a wonderful and encouraging way to build faith, connect with fellow believers, and take advantage of an opportunity to participate in an act of kindness for those less fortunate.

Our group ranged in age from elementary school students to septuagenarians. It was especially inspiring to share the time with the younger ones – thanks Lily! There were over 20 ecclesias represented, from all over North America, and even one from New Zealand!

The session lasted for about an hour, and included:

  • Sharing fantastic knitting ideas;
  • A discussion of where to donate knitted items, such as Project Linus (https://www.projectlinus.org/), reservations and homeless shelters; and
  • A short thought on the fruit of the spirit, with a brief discussion period

It was an uplifting and beneficial evening and we look forward to meeting again in two week’s time.

Knit2Gether continues to meet over zoom once a month. You are welcome to join anytime!
