I have been volunteering with Atlantic Outreach Group (a local food bank) for about two years now. Back at the beginning of the summer, I had noticed a higher demand for their emergency food kits (small bags of nonperishable items meant to last for 2 days of meals). When I heard about the Garden Outreach initiative, I knew that would be the perfect opportunity to get something started. Our ecclesia worked together to collect supplies and pack 40 emergency food kits, partially funded by the Garden Initiative. Since then, we have had two more similar projects. In total, we have been able to donate 160 emergency food kits to AOG! It has been a great team building experience for our ecclesia and after the first three, ecclesial members have asked when we are doing another one. Having the grant to help initially was a good push for us. I hope to continue the momentum and create a similar project every couple of months or so.
